Gary Granada

Gary Granada is a Filipino musician, songwriter, and social activist. He was born on August 11, 1959, in Calamba, Laguna, Philippines.

Granada's musical journey began in the early 1980s when he started writing songs that reflected his strong social and political convictions. His music was heavily influenced by folk music and the works of legendary Filipino songwriters like Jose Corazon de Jesus and Heber Bartolome.

One of Granada's most popular songs is "Saranggola sa Ulan" (Kite in the Rain), which became a hit in the Philippines in the late 1980s. The song's lyrics tell the story of a young boy flying a kite in the rain, a metaphor for the struggles and hardships of life.

Throughout his career, Granada has written and performed songs that tackle social and political issues, such as poverty, injustice, and corruption. He has become a well-known figure in the Philippine music scene for his strong social commentary and advocacy work.

Aside from his music, Granada is also a writer and poet. He has published several books of poetry and essays, and his works have been included in various literary anthologies.

Over the years, Granada has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to Philippine music and culture. In 2003, he was awarded the Gawad CCP para sa Sining (Cultural Center of the Philippines Award for the Arts) for Music, and in 2013, he received the Tandang Sora Award from the Philippine government in recognition of his contributions to social justice.

Today, Gary Granada continues to be a vital voice in the Philippine music scene, using his music to raise awareness of social and political issues and inspire positive change in society.
